Dates Have Changed

After an exhaustive search, I have found a great venue for Cade Raid 2014. Just over a week ago I thought I had found an ideal facility. But the more I talked to the manager there, the more I realized I was wrong. So, I went back to square one and found a better place for our bi-annual motorcycle rally. Let me tell you some of the reasons I am so excited about this location.

First, we need to be close to the many awesome roads of the Great Smokies including The Tail of The Dragon. But, I wanted to avoid the traffic and more expensive lodging in the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area. Second, I want us to be meeting in a facility which is motorcycle friendly. Third, we need meeting room space, a secured room for our Cavalcade Store and banquet services for our Friday Farewell Dinner. Fourth, we need space for working on motorcycles and parking room to hold the rider training class and to pose the bikes for Picture Day. And fifth, I wanted options for social events, such as the dinner cruise we had at La Crosse and the Musical/Comedy Jamboree we attended in Eureka Springs. (Wait until I tell you what I have lined up!) Last, but not least, I wanted to have a guest room rate no higher than we have paid in the past.

So, I have now found and secured a hotel which has all the above. They have hosted many motorcycle groups in the past. Most of them larger than our group. They are sending me a packet of ride maps and a CD-ROM with photos from these other motorcycle rallies. I'll share these with you when I get them.

NASCAR TRACK ~ There is a nearby NASCAR race track to which we can arrange a visit and actually ride our bikes on the track itself. Check out their web site: http://www.bristolmotorspeedway.com/season_tickets/?gclid=CMyZvoDenLMCFYQ7Mgod3jwASg

RAILROAD TRACK ~ A couple hour's ride from the hotel through the mountain countryside will take us to a historic railroad where we can board for a three and a half round trip. Check out their web site: http://www.gsmr.com/

I have some personal history with the roads in this area. I'll go into details later. But, for several years I would fly into the local airport, rent a car and drive to a small resort in the Smokies to record lectures at an annual event there. I remember sitting at the window, looking out at the road for hours watching motorcycle after motorcycle cruising past and wishing I had mine there so I could follow them.

So, for all these reasons (and more) I am very excited to announce that Cade Raid 2014 will be held at the Holiday Inn in Johnson City, Tennessee. We have a group room rate of $59 per night. The dates are September 15-19, 2014. I'll have more details after I have a chance to visit the hotel next month and sign the contract. But, I want you to know that the plan is coming together. See you there!
