Carburetor Adjustments - If You Are Determined To Do It Yourself, Read This

The way my mechanic explained it, was to turn all the jets in until they GENTLY seat.  Turn them back out 3 full turns, and use that as the adjustment starting point.  I found with the stock air filter, around 2 1/2 turns gave me the ideal GPM rate as well as power and general run/start efficiency.

With the K&N air filter I have the jets turned all the way out to the stops.  I get better mileage/power and the bike seems to be fine.

Important Note:  When you are tightening the jet screw in to the seated starting point, it is very important that you seat them gently.  The jet screws are very delicate and seating them tightly will damage them.  It never hurts to remove the jet screws for inspection.  They should be pointed on the ends and smooth on the tapered end.  There should be no ring around the tapered part of the jet screws.  If you find a ring around the jet screw, this indicates the jet screw has been seated too tight.  You must then replace the jet screw.  Failure to replace a damaged jet screw will cause fuel / air mixture problems and poor engine performance.
